Well, it was finally time to leave Port Douglas and go
on the road to Darwin.
This meant that I had to drive back south to Charter
Towers or SH62, and then take a right onto Sh78 towards Richmond.
I traveled about 2500 kilometers in the last few days,
and have now arrived in Katherine, just another 400 K's to Darwin.
Here are some pictures of the trip though the Outback
of Australia...
Hit the brakes! Emu's on the road...
No, this is not a 4WD track... This is State Highway 1, in Queensland,
somewhere south of Ravenshoe.
Queensland is known for its bad roads. There is barely enough tar to
keep my wheels on it, and when a Road Train approaches from the other direction,
it gets really interesting.
No, this is not the same picture. It is at least 500 kilometers further
down the track...
Another 1000 kilometers further... and what have we here??
Oh darn, that looks like a bush fire!
Whoops, and a big one too. Many square kilometers are
going up in flames...
This happens a lot, and it kills of a lot of small animals.
I was lucky there was almost no wind.
